Matthijs van Bergen

Matthijs is a Senior Legal Counsel with extensive experience in ICT and information law. He has developed expertise across a broad range of legal fields and application areas, including privacy and information security, among others in education and healthcare, ICT contract law, also in an international context, intellectual property, including open source, e-commerce, broadband, with a particular focus on rural areas, telecommunications law, competition law, especially state aid, net neutrality, and freedom of expression and information gathering.

Matthijs has experience not only as a Data Protection Officer and privacy adviser, but also as a CISO and information security adviser. His experience and various professional certifications, including CIPP/E, CIPM, CISM and ISO 27001 Lead Implementer, enable him to support organisations in optimally protecting both privacy and information security.

A key objective for Matthijs as an adviser is to gain a thorough understanding of both the technical operation and the societal and economic context of the products and services on which he advises, and to use that understanding to work towards a win-win outcome.
